Blades close in on Allison

SHEFFIELD UNITED manager Neil Warnock is set to sign striker Wayne Allison, while he also considers imposing a touchline ban on himself for the new season.

Warnock is closing in on his sixth summer signing as he looks to add another experienced head to his squad.

Former Tranmere skipper Allison left Prenton Park on a free transfer and the 33-year-old is expected to complete a move to Bramall Lane within days.

The experienced striker will join fellow veterans Iffy Onuora, Stuart McCall and Steve Yates at the club, while Warnock has also added young striker Lauren Ten Heuvel to his squad.

The news comes as the Blades boss says he may watch his men in action from the stands for the upcoming Division One season.

Warnock has a poor disciplinary record and spent the end of last term watching from the stands after yet another bust-up resulted in a further touchline ban.

He has spent time watching from above during pre-season, and says that he could stay there in the new season.

"I'm thinking about staying up there because the lads seem to play much better when I do," said Warnock.

"To be honest it wasn't as difficult as I thought and you do get a good view of what's going on out on the pitch, in that sense it's an advantage.

"It's something I'm going to seriously consider but if I do then we'll have to find a way of improving the communication between Blacky and myself.

"Sometimes it was difficult for me to get a message down to him in the dug-out."
