Onuora out with Achilles injury

SHEFFIELD UNITED have been dealt a major blow by the news that striker Iffy Onuora is out for up to a year with an Achilles injury.

Onuora ruptured his Achilles tendon after landing awkwardly in the first half of The Blades' 1-0 victory over South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United at Bramall Lane.

The 35-year-old was stretchered off and taken to hospital on Saturday where his injury was later diagnosed.

Onuora's injury comes after he was allowed to play in the match against The Merry Millers after a red card in a win at Norwich City last week was reduced to a caution by match referee Philip Dowd.

On the injury news to Onuora, Blades boss Neil Warnock told the Sheffield United official website: "It is a major downer - Iffy has gone to hospital and will have an operation on Sunday.

"It was not a clash or anything, he just landed funnily and unfortunately for him he could be out for a year.

"Our thoughts are with Iffy."
