Smith facing spell on sidelines

CRYSTAL PALACE defender Jamie Smith is facing a spell on the sidelines after suffering more knee injury problems.

The 28-year-old could be out until the New Year with knee trouble, which could be a blow to Eagles manager Trevor Francis.

Smith joined the Selhurst Park club in November 1999 from Wolves and signed a three-year deal with Palace in June 2001 when former boss Steve Bruce was in charge.

With the South London club letting fellow defender Andy Frampton make a free transfer move to Brentford on Monday, Francis will likely have one less player to choose from in his back-line over the next few weeks.
