Beckham's wife in kidnap drama

Five people have been arrested for their part in the conspiracy following an investigation in The News of the World.

Four men and one woman are being held in custody in London, as the midfielder captained United in their 2-1 Premiership success against Southampton.

"Four men and one woman have been arrested today by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service and Organised Crime Command for offences of theft and conspiracy to kidnap, following informed passed to the police by The News of the World," confirmed a Scotland Yard spokeswoman.

Victoria, aka 'Posh Spice', is part of one of the most glamorous couples in England following her high-profile marriage to the England skipper.

She recently gave birth to the newest addition to the Beckham family, Romeo, after previously having another son, Brooklyn.

There has long been speculation over sinister plots to kidnap Brooklyn, and security has been tight around the Beckhams.

It is not known whether Beckham was aware of the arrests as he performed at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
