Dugarry arrives in Birmingham

STEVE BRUCE was refusing to 'count his chickens' on Wednesday night, but Birmingham seem to be on the brink of capturing Christophe Dugarry after calling a press conference for Thursday afternoon.

The Blues chief was evasive when asked if the club were signing the Bordeaux man, following the defeat at Leeds, but Dugarry arrived in Birmingham late on New Year`s Day.

He was whisked away from Birmingham airport to a local hotel, and the club have called a press conference for 3pm - with Dugarry set to be unveiled as their latest capture.

It is not yet known if he will sign permanently or arrive on a loan deal with a view to a full transfer in the summer.

Bruce said: "I don't want to count my chickens, so all I will say is that he is a player we have been chasing and we hope that we're close to agreeing something with him.

"But it's not signed and sealed as people expected and there's a little bit of work to be done."

A medical seems set to be undertaken on Thursday, before the forward is unveiled by Bruce.

Ferdinand Coly recently put pen-to paper on a St Andrews deal, and the Senegalese man should be joined in The Midlands by the Frenchman.

Dugarry may not be the only arrival, as Bruce added: "We also hope to make a couple of major signings over the next week to ten days."

It is rumoured that Leeds defender Michael Duberry could be a defensive addition to the Birmingham squad.
