Bergy future on ice

The magical Dutchman's contract is up in July and he has yet to commit himself to a new deal with The Gunners.

Bergkamp, a product of the famous Ajax youth system, was seriously considering following in the footsteps of fellow Arsenal legends Tony Adams and Lee Dixon, who retired at the end of their Double winning season.

However, it is understood in the famous marble halls of Highbury that the former Internazionale star has had a change of heart and will make a decision on his future at the end of the season.

Manager Arsene Wenger is a huge admirer of the striker's talents and would welcome the news of a re-think.

The Frenchman said: "I want him to carry on, but only time will tell if he can still play at the highest level.

"We will sit down again in April and May and see how he feels.

It will be up to Bergkamp to decide if he can still perform:

"I know he can, but it's a decision which rests with him and we will talk again towards the end of the season."

Bergkamp is not the only player Wenger hopes will wait before making a decision on his Arsenal future.
