McCarthy ready to sit out Celta deal
BENNI McCARTHY has explained to planetfootball.com that he is ready to see out the remaining 18 months of his contract at Celta Vigo before sealing a move to England.
The South African star has told Celta that he wants to move to England and that he is prepared to wait for his Premiership switch.
"I have 18 months left on my contract and now I am just looking forward and concentrating on the immediate future," McCarthy told planetfootball.
"I have told them that when my next move comes I want it to be England and I am prepared to stay until my deal has expired.
"There has been no contact with me, my agent and Manchester City and so I never really took it seriously."
McCarthy had been linked with a move to Manchester City, but his agent has played down that speculation and confirmed that there was never any official contact between the two parties.
The player's agent Rob Moore also told planetfootball.com that the link with City was never anything more than rumour.
"As far as we were concerned it was gossip, there was never any official contact between any of the parties and until Celta are contacted then it is pointless looking at it," said Moore.
"Benni will stay on if he has too, we know he will play in England and so we are not worried at this point."
