Martinez's Swansea deal nearly done
SWANSEA CITY have told planetfootball.com that they hope to complete the signing of midfielder Roberto Martinez on Monday afternoon.
The 29-year-old Spaniard has been in talks with the Division Three bottom club and nearly joined them late last week, after falling out-of-favour with Division One side Walsall.
Swansea's press officer Peter Owen has revealed that Martinez is returning to Vetch Field on Monday to hopefully tie up a deal with the Welsh club.
Owen said: "He hasn't completed a deal as yet, obviously it fell through on Thursday night.
"But he's travelling back to Swansea today to hopefully finalise it this [Monday] afternoon.
"However, nothing has been completed as yet."
The former Wigan Athletic and Motherwell has not featured for The Saddlers since October, having joined the Bescot Stadium club last summer.
The Swans are hoping Martinez will be a valuable addition to their squad, as they aim to avoid relegation from the Football League this season.
Meanwhile, Walsall have started to replace their Bescot Stadium pitch following the deteriorating condition of the old surface this season.
Work began on replacing the turf following the Saddlers' 1-0 FA Cup success against Wimbledon on Saturday.
The West Midland outfit plan to have the new pitch laid in time for their Division One clash against Brighton & Hove Albion this coming Saturday.
Meanwhile, Leigh De-Vulgt has joined League of Wales side Carmarthen Town following his release from Vetch Field last month.
