Frustrated Schmeichel breaks Keane silence
The Danish legend missed out on a match-up against Keane on Sunday when pulling up lame in the warm-up to the Manchester derby, and has admitted he faces another spell on the sidelines.
"It's a pretty demoralising situation to be in," he complained.
"I am back to square one now and it is very frustrating.
"Personally, it wasn't the best of days but you have to put your own disappointment to one side and help the team."
As for the venomous comments from Keane, who suggested that his former Manchester United colleague was a "poser", Schmeichel has finally broken his silence on the matter.
"I am not going to comment on anything Keaney has written in his book because I haven't done so far," he told The Times.
"I mean, obviously, I've read that paragraph before but it's an opinion.
"Roy Keane is not he kind of person I would socialise with, but he would be the first player in my team.
"He's a brilliant player, a great leader.
"He is probably not the best technical player in the world, but he has got an engine like I have never seen.
"And I think he pretty much thinks the same of me.
"We would not go out for a drink together, but I think, if he was naming his team, I'd be in it as well."
