Jackson joins U's

COLCHESTER UNITED have taken defender Johnnie Jackson on a month's loan from Premiership side Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-year-old, who spent a previous loan spell at fellow Division Two side Swindon Town, will go into manager Phil Parkinson's line-up to face Brentford at Griffin Park on Tuesday evening.

The U's boss was delighted to have captured Jackson, who has played for England at youth level and is currently a Spurs' reserve player.

"We needed to get another body in and Johnnie can play at left back and also in midfield," Parkinson told the club's official website.

"He's a young player who has already been on loan at Swindon this season and, as well as already watching him ourselves, he comes highly recommended by John Gorman.

"I would have been wary about bringing in someone who was completely inexperienced at this level and putting them straight into the team, because it is an important time for the club.

"But I think he will do a very good job for us, especially with the experience he picked up at Swindon and in Tottenham's reserve team."

Jackson replaces the injured Liam Chilvers, who damaged knee ligaments while on loan with the Layer Road club from Premiership champions Arsenal.
