Shearer rules out England return
The Newcastle United striker stepped out of the international limelight after England's drab failure at Euro 2000.
But his sparkling form for The Magpies in the subsequent seasons has prompted repeated cries for him to return to the England set-up.
Shearer ignited speculation about an England comeback by stating he did miss representing the Three Lions and admitted he felt he could still 'do a job' for Sven Goran Eriksson's side.
However, after discussions with his family, Shearer has opted not to advance his claims for a return to the England fold and the chance to add to his tally of 63 caps and 30 goals and he issued a statement to clarify his position.
"The widespread coverage of my remarks concerning a possible comeback for England has led me for the first time to seriously consider making myself available again for the England team," read the statement.
"As part of that process I have spent much of the day discussing that decision with my family, my close friends and football colleagues.
"After much consideration I feel it is only right and fair to make it absolutely clear that I do not wish to be considered for future selection by the England coach.
"My comments following Newcastle United's midweek match were made in good faith and truly reflected my enormous enjoyment of football this season but I honestly believe my remaining football ambitions can be fulfilled at club level with Newcastle United in The Premiership and in the Champions League.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the many people who have made kind and complimentary remarks about my recent form and I would like to wish the England coach Sven Goran Eriksson and the England team the best of luck for the European Championships qualification campaign."
