Everton eye Essien move

EVERTON are eyeing a summer move for powerful Bastia midfielder Mickael Essien.

The Ghanaian international has been in impressive form for Bastia in Le Championnat this season, and has been linked with a number of clubs around Europe.

Essien had been reported to be a target for Premiership title hopefuls Newcastle United but had also stated his desire to play for Manchester United.

Everton boss David Moyes is now a keen admirer and Goodison Park scouts have travelled to Corsica to watch him in action ahead of any move in the summer.

The Toffees may face competition from French side Lyon, who looked certain to capture the 20-year-old during the winter transfer window.

Bastia wanted to keep their man on that occasion but are now willing to let him go, although they are ambitiously looking for ‚é¼7 million for his signature.

Lyon will first wait to see if Marc-Vivien Foe will leave Stade Gerland in the summer and complete his move to Manchester City after identifying Essien as an ideal replacement for him.

Should l'OL also secure a Champions League place, they will then do battle with Everton for the African midfielder.
