O'Shea's Celtic revelation

MANCHESTER UNITED defender John O'Shea has revealed that he was on the brink of signing for Celtic before United boss Sir Alex Ferguson convinced him to head south instead.

The stylish Republic of Ireland international has been a revelation this season, and will be on the short-list of contenders for the Young Player of the Year award.

There have been suggestions that Liverpool were close to signing O'Shea in his youth, as he was a boyhood fan of the Merseysiders, but the youngster has admitted he was primed to join Celtic as a 15-year-old.

"When I was 15, I had all but dotted the i's and crossed the t's on the dotted line to go to Celtic," he stated.

"But then United came in for me and I changed my mind.

"Everyone kept asking 'How are you going to get into that team?'

"But I decided the education I could get football-wise at United would do me the world of good and I couldn't turn down the chance."
