Big Sam warns Okocha

BOLTON WANDERERS manager Sam Allardyce has warned Jay-Jay Okocha to cut out the showboating or risk the consequences.

The mercurial Nigerian has been an inspirational figure in recent weeks as The Trotters strive to secure their Premiership future.

Okocha's crowd-pleasing performances have regularly entertained and his dazzling skills have added vibrancy to Bolton's play.

But Trotters chief Allardyce is concerned Okocha's tricks could see him targeted by football's hard men and has pleaded with the African to concentrate on the basics.

"Jay-Jay's performance against Manchester City last week was unbelievable in terms of the skill he displayed," said Allardyce.

"But showboating has never been part of the equation for me as a player or a manager and I'm not keen on some of the stuff that Jay-Jay was doing.

"If he continues to take the mickey out of defenders, then he will have to look out for what is coming.

"I would ask him not to do it and play up to the crowd because it might end up costing him. He doesn't need to show his repertoire of tricks because he has enough outstanding ability without the flashy stuff."
