Laws talks to two

SCUNTHORPE UNITED manager Brian Laws is in negotiations to add two fresh faces to his Iron squad.

Laws is eager to bolster his armoury for another promotion push next season after Iron lost in the play-off semi-finals to Lincoln City this term.

The identity of the duo is unknown although one name mooted as a potential signing is Clifford Byrne (pictured), who enjoyed a three-month loan spell at Glanford Park earlier in the campaign.

Byrne has been released by Sunderland after previously rejecting a permanent switch to Scunthorpe to press his claims with the relegated Premiership club.

But now he has no future on Wearside, Byrne may be more amenable to dropping down to the Third Division club with the prospect of regular first-team football on offer.

The other player in discussions with Laws remains a mystery although a left winger and striker could be the areas the Iron boss is looking to strengthen.

With Peter Beagrie and Martin Carruthers mulling over fresh contracts, Laws may need to buttress those positions during the summer.
