Stam will not take Lazio shares
The Roman giants, who have been blighted with financial problems over the last season, have been forced to offer club shares to players in exchange for waiving monies owed to them.
Most of the current squad has agreed to a new pay structure, but the former Manchester United star is now one of them.
"They have offered to pay the remaining four months of the players' salaries for this season in club shares," revealed Stam to Uefa's website.
"Secondly, they want all the squad to agree to a 45 per cent cut in their contract terms for next season. In my view, this offer is laughable.
"I understand the club is in a difficult position but I can't go to the supermarket and buy groceries for my family with shares."
Juventus, Internazionale and Milan have been linked with moves for the player, but he does not yet know what the future will hold for him.
"I really don't know what will happen," he added.
"I won't accept Lazio's current offer but it isn't 100 percent certain that I will leave.
"I have two years left on my contract and I had intended to honour that.
"A lot can change over the summer, so I will have to wait and see what happens."
