Pompey chase Dutch ace
PORTSMOUTH boss Harry Redknapp has revealed to planetfootball.com that he is looking to sign Dutch goalkeeper Harald Wapenaar as they prepare for next season in The Premiership.
The 33-year-old shot stopper is looking for a new club as Utrecht could not afford to offer him a new deal.
Pompey are reported to have offered Wapenaar a three-year deal but no deal will be sealed until after talks this weekend with other clubs interested in the Dutchman.
Wapenaar had been linked with Chievo and De Graafschap, but Redknapp is now hoping lure him to the South Coast.
"I am interested in the player," Redknapp told planetfootball.com.
"He is on a Bosman, as he is out of contract, and he is an experienced player.
"We watched last season with Kevin Bond [Portsmouth coach] watching him on a number of occasions.
"He is a good professional and I hope to have him over at the weekend for talks.
"He has offers from a German club and Sturm Graz, but I am hopeful of bringing him to Portsmouth on a free transfer."
Redknapp feels the club need two top-quality goalkeepers and he wants competition for first-choice Shaka Hislop with Japanese international Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi set to leave Fratton Park.
The Pompey chief has admitted that a new goalkeeper is his transfer priority and Wapenaar could fit the bill, as he is an attractive option being available on a free transfer.
