Vieri pleased Chelsea bid failed

CHRISTIAN VIERI has no intention of moving to Chelsea as he is happy with Internazionale, even though Roman Abramovich has launched a fresh ‚é¼55 million bid for both the Azzurri striker and Fabio Cannavaro.

The Inter forward is one of Chelsea's top targets and was the subject of discussions in Milan between Neroazzurri president Massimo Moratti and wealthy Blues owner Abramovich.

Despite the riches on offer, Inter have declared their 30-year-old attacker "intransferable", and, contrary to misleading reports in London, Vieri has no desire to push for a switch to Stamford Bridge.

"I knew of the meeting between Moratti and Abramovich on Thursday and, for a moment, I asked myself what could happen," Vieri revealed.

"But then Gabriele Oriali phoned me and said the president affirmed to Chelsea that I am absolutely intransferable.

"It was exactly what I wanted to hear.

"Then I contacted president Moratti and thanked him to have considered me intransferable."

Vieri seems perfectly settled in Milan, after something of a nomadic career to date. With Chelsea willing to buy both Vieri and defender Cannavaro, the ambition of the West Londoners is clear, but Inter rejected the proposal out of hand.

"As for a contract extension, it isn't and it won't be a problem," Vieri told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"When it will be the time, I will talk with the president.

"It seems to me to be a good market. The right players for what we need have arrived at Inter.

"Not big names, but players to cover specific roles.

"Now we have to change mentality - I don't want another season like the last one.

"We have to change the mentality and the game too because we can't just think of fitness and running.

"We and (Hector) Cuper too, we will have to give something more."
