Riquelme picks Villarreal
JUAN ROMAN RIQUELME has decided to join Villarreal on a season-long loan with the deal expected to be completed in the next few days.
The Argentinian is currently surplus to requirements at Barcelona following the arrival of Ronaldinho but the Catalan club are only willing to let the midfielder leave on a temporary basis.
Riquelme turned down offers from Murcia and Mallorca and also rejected the idea of a move back to Argentina to join former club, Boca Juniors on loan.
The 25-year old chose Villarreal because of their closeness to his current home in Barcelona and the fact that the club also boast a squad containing several former Boca players.
The move will give the playmaker the chance to continue his development in La Liga while also getting the chance to play in the Uefa Cup.
