Stannard returns for Bees

More from Football

BRENTFORD have eased their goalkeeping crisis by signing 40-year old Jim Stannard.

The experienced custodian will be on the bench for the club's next three games as first-choice Paul Smith is suspended after his sending off against West Brom in the Carling Cup.

Alan Julian is likely to take over for the match against Port Vale but Bees boss Wally Downes decided 17-year old Josh Lennie was too inexperienced to be named as a substitute and brought in Stannard as cover.

The veteran shot-stopper's last game in the Football League was for Gillingham in November 1998 and he joins the Griffin Park club on a non-contract basis.
