Posh turn to Wood

MANCHESTER UNITED starlet Neil Wood has joined Peterborough on loan for a month to help fill the void left by injuries and suspensions.

The 21-year old could go straight into the squad for Saturday's league game at Tranmere after he turned down the chance of a similar move to Swansea.

The London Road outfit are without Sagi Burton, Dennis Pearce and Andrew Fotiadis through injury while Christopher Kanu is suspended.

The club's cause has not been helped with the news that Adam Newton and Richard Scott will be unavailable for the weekend as both the players' partners have gone into labour and the midfielders have been granted paternity leave.

"I am so grateful to arguably the best manager ever, Sir Alex Ferguson, for loaning me Neil Wood," stated  Posh boss Barry Fry on the club's official website.

"He is 21-years old and has been at Manchester United all his career, he is an England schoolboy international and has played up to Under-19 level."

He added: "He has had a few injuries, but I have signed him on a one-month loan, and in the circumstances, it is terrific as I don't think we will get Curtis Woodhouse for three weeks as there are a few problems at the Birmingham end."
