Reddy in, Quinn out for Owls

Sheffield Wednesday have brought Sunderland forward Michael Reddy back to Hillsborough on a three-month loan deal with Alan Quinn heading in the opposite direction.

Reddy has been told by Black Cats boss Mick McCarthy that he is free to leave Stadium of Light after failing to establish himself in the first team picture.

The 23-year-old has spent the bulk of the past two years out on loan, including a four-month stint with The Owls last term.

Wednesday manager Chris Turner was impressed with the Irishman's displays and was anxious to re-sign Reddy, although he has been forced to juggle his finances.

In order to facilitate Reddy's arrival, Turner has sanctioned Quinn's departure and the Owls boss is happy his quest to sign the attacker has come to fruition.

"It's a move that came right out of the blue," Turner told the club's website. "Mick McCarthy phoned me on Thursday to suggest the deal and, having considered it, I agreed.

"Michael is a player I was hoping to sign all summer. He is a player who can add pace to our team and, with our current injury problems, it is a bonus that he can play either as a striker or on the right wing."

Republic of Ireland midfielder Quinn has moved to Wearside with his manager's consent after Turner revealed it would boost the player's international prospects.

He continued: "Alan was left out of the Ireland squad this week and it was mentioned that he needs to be playing First Division football, so this is a chance for him on that score."

Both three-month loan deals have been set up with the intention to make them permanent.
