Micoud may quit Bremen

Johan Micoud has hinted he could leave Werder Bremen after the Bundesliga club agreed let two top players join rivals Schalke.

Micoud, signed from Parma in 2002, has been a big hit in Germany but news that striker Ailton and defender Mladen Kristajic have been allowed to leave has made him question the club's ambition.

The pair will leave in the summer when their contracts expire.

The Frenchman told Bild: "I have a contract until 2005 but I'm not sure whether I will still be here then.

"I'm disappointed with Werder. It's ludicrous to lose two top players on free transfers," said the 30-year-old.

Bremen have a history of selling their best players to Bundesliga rivals. Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro left for Bayern Munich in 2001 and German internationals Torsten Frings and Frank Rost were signed by Borussia Dortmund and Schalke respectively.

There have even been rumours Schalke may return to Bremen to sign Micoud.
