The talented midfielder picked up a leg injury against Perugia at the weekend and scans have confirmed a minor strain to his hamstring.
The damage to Zanetti's left hamstring is not believed to be serious, but with just two games to go before the Serie A season shuts down for the festive period, it has been decided he should not be rushed into making a swift return.
Inter coach Alberto Zaccheroni rates Zanetti highly, having earmarked him for a key role in his midfield, and he will hope the player can return fit and well in the New Year.
