More op misery for Piper

Sunderland youngster Matt Piper has undergone his third operation of the season and will be sidelined for at least six weeks.

The former Leicester winger underwent surgery to remove cartilage from his knee.

Piper has only played three games for The Black Cats this season, the last being against Preston in August.

There was, however, a boost for Mick McCarthy as Gary Breen is back in training after sustaining a knee injury against Coventry in November.
