No Butts as Nicky wants United exit
The 28-year-old has grown increasingly frustrated by the lack of first team opportunities this season and he has finally asked Sir Alex Ferguson for permission to leave.
Ferguson has confirmed that Butt will be allowed to leave, with Darren Fletcher, Kleberson and Phil Neville all ahead of him in the pecking order.
United also have the likes of Eric Djemba Djemba, Kieran Richardson and Chris Eagles ready to fight for a midfield berth - while Liam Miller will add further to the competion when he joins from Celtic in the summer.
With this in mind, Manchester-born Butt has decided he needs to leave in order to secure regular first team football and his place in the England squad.
"Nicky Butt has asked to leave, it is a very sad situation," admitted Ferguson.
"Nicky has given Manchester United great service but he wants to play first-team football.
"With Phil Neville, and the emergence of Darren Fletcher and Kleberson, it has made it difficult for Nicky to get in the first team so he has asked to leave."
Butt, who turns 29 later this month, has over two years left on his current deal - but Ferguson will not stand in the way of a man who has started nearly 300 games for The Red Devils.
