Booy takes on new Utrecht role

By Jeffrey Glorie
Utrecht coach Foeke Booy has added the role of technical director to his duties following the departure of Hans Berger.

The Dutch outfit severed their ties with Berger at the end of 2003 due to his discussions regarding coaching positions with two Japanese clubs.

In his place, Utrecht have opted to hand Booy the job, in addition to his post as first-team coach.

Booy's extra tasks at Utrecht will now mean he is responsible for the buying and selling policy at the Eredivisie side.

The move will also present Booy's assistant John van Loen with a greater input in to the first team.

Meanwhile, Utrecht full back Etienne Shew-Atjon has suffered a knee injury during the club's winter training camp in Spain.

Atjon has already returned to Holland for treatment and Booy is awaiting the outcome of tests to determine the extent of the injury.

"This is the umpteenth setback that hits us this season that concerns injuries," Booy told the club's official website.

"I find it a pity for him because he was in good form. I hope that the injury is not that bad."
