Fry plays down Kanu links

Peterborough United boss Barry Fry insists there is no truth to reports linking defender Christopher Kanu with a move to Spain.

Reports from Nigeria suggest the brother of Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu could be close to a transfer window move to either Atletico Madrid or Real Sociedad.

However, Fry has responded to the reports by stating that he has not received any interest from any club for the former Ajax player, who signed a two-year deal with The Posh when he joined the London Road outfit last August.

"I would just like to respond to the Nigerian newspaper that carries a story about Christopher Kanu going to one of two Spanish clubs," Fry told the club's official website.

"All I can say is that I don't know anything about it.

"Chris is currently away at a training camp with his country in Portugal before going on to Tunisia for the African Cup of Nations, but he does telephone me before every game, as we have to wish the team good luck.

"I am sure if Chris knew of any interest, he would have informed me in the conversations we have.

"It has just been written in a Nigerian newspaper and as far as we are concerned, there is no truth in the story."

Meanwhile, Posh youngster Jamie Day is set to return to West Ham United next week for another trial with the First Division side.

The winger, who had a trial at Manchester United in the summer before signing a contract at London Road, saw his first trial with The Hammers cut short by an ankle injury.
