Inquest finds Davis death an accident
The 21-year-old was killed in a high-speed motorway crash on the M40 in Oxfordshire last August as he travelled to meet up with his Watford team-mates ahead of the game with Coventry.
It was suggested that Davis travelled down in the early hours of the morning of the game because he was too hot to sleep, although it will remain a mystery why he was travelling at such a time.
Davis, who was on a season-long loan at Vicarage Road, was found to be twice-the legal drink drive limit when he crashed into an articulated lorry.
The England Under-21 international would not have been able to play against Coventry anyway as he was injured and the inquest heard he spent the night before out drinking in a nightclub with a friend.
Blood tests showed 155mg of alcohol and a urine test showed a reading of 235mg in his system.
Police said the car was embedded halfway into the lorry and was dragged for more than 300 yards before bursting into flames.
Pathologist Dr Ian Roberts said Mr Davis suffered multiple injuries and would have died instantly from a massive head trauma before the fire incinerated the car. He was later identified from dental records and a passport found in the car.
