Roma reveal Totti bids

EXCLUSIVE
Roma director Franco Baldini has confirmed to skysports.com that the club have received offers for talismanic striker Francesco Totti.

Speculation is persisting in Italy that club captain Totti could be sacrificed by the giallorossi who still have crippling financial problems.

Unsurprisingly Roman Abramovich-backed Chelsea have been touted as one of the Italian international's suitors, with reigning European champions Real Madrid also credited with an interest.

Baldini remained coy over the identity of the clubs who had submitted bids for Totti but, inevitably, Chelsea's extraordinary financial clout sees them as the most likely candidates.

"My duty was to bring offers to the attention of the club's owners," Baldini told skysports.com.

"Having now done that, it's up to them to consider the offers.

"It's not that I don't know anymore, but I don't want to cross the borders of my role."

Meanwhile, Baldini went on to claim that the collapse of a proposed takeover of Roma by Russian petrol giant Nafta Moscow was not down to the current investigation into the financial state of Italian football.

It had been suggested that possible irregularities at the capital club had led the Russians to reconsider their bid for the Stadio Olimpico outfit.

Baldini denied this, though, adding: "I would not be too sure that is the reason.

"The inquiry took place in the headquarters of 50 different clubs.

"Nobody was charged of anything, so there was no reason to consider that Roma might be more concerned by the issue than anyone else."

Intriguingly there is some speculation that Nafta's decision to drop their interest has been ordered by Abramovich, who is a share-holder in the company, in a bid to leave Roma more susceptible to a big-money bid for Totti.
