Orient let Boniek go

Leyton Orient have terminated the contract of young left winger Boniek Forbes by mutual consent at Brisbane Road.

The 20-year-old agreed a settlement to the rest of his deal with the East London outfit after O's boss Martin Ling told the youngster that he did not figure in his plans for next season.

With that in mind, the Guinea Bissau-born player has been given a head-start in trying to find a new club ahead of next season, having not figured much for the Orient first team this term.

"Boniek did very well as a sub early in the season but his first team opportunities have been limited recently," Ling told the club's official website.

"I need players that are going to be able to perform consistently over a 90 minute period and unfortunately Boniek can only play in one position and although he's got undoubted ability, he needs to show it more regularly if he wants to have a good career.

"I told him he wouldn't be one of the players in the squad here for next season and we agreed it would be best to give him a chance now to find pastures new."

Forbes is expected to join another former Orient player in teenage defender Kevin Stephens by taking a trial with Conference outfit Aldershot within the next couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, new Grimsby Town boss Nicky Law is hoping to extend the loan of O's striker Lee Thorpe until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has impressed The Mariners during his initial one-month loan spell at Blundell Park.
