Injury ends Dodd's season

Southampton captain Jason Dodd has been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury in last weekend's win at Wolves.

Dodd was the victim of a horror tackle from Wolves striker Henri Camara during their 4-1 win at Molineux last Saturday.

Tests have shown that Dodd has torn his medial knee ligaments and faces up to six to eight weeks on the sidelines - ending his season prematurely.

Southampton physio Jim Joyce does not expect Dodd to need surgery and is hopeful he will fit for pre-season training in the summer.

"There is a tear of the medial ligament but there is no obvious other damage," Joyce told the club's official website.

"However, we will have him seen by a knee specialist as a precaution although we are not expecting him to need surgery.

"The scan seems to show he has got off lightly. We did worry there might be a possibility of cruciate damage but, touch wood, that does not seem to be the case.

"He is not going to play again this season so he can take his time, get himself right and be ready for pre-season."
