Neville eases injury concerns

Gary Neville has allayed fears about his, and captain David Beckham's, fitness, after the pair picked up knocks in England's friendly draw with Japan.

The Manchester United full back and his old club colleague were both hurt during the 1-1 draw at The City of Manchester Stadium.

Neville suffered a bang to his hip while England skipper Beckham was kicked on the ankle which has been bothering him over the past few weeks.

But Neville has eased any concerns about the duo's fitness for the tournament in Portugal, with the right back aiming to feature in Saturday's tussle with Iceland.

"I'm fine, there's nothing to worry about," Neville told The FA's official website. "I just got a dead-leg on my hip and it was a sore one.

"But it's okay. I'm hoping to be fit for Saturday's game against Iceland because I want to get another game under my belt before the finals.

"It's the same for David, I wouldn't worry about that. We will both be okay and these things happen. You always get niggles in games and little bits of this and that. But I don't think we've got anything serious."

Beckham echoed Neville's sentiments by revealing he does not expect to be on the treatment table for too long.

"I don't think it's a big problem," said the captain "I've been careful over the last week and I haven't trained much for 10 days.

"I got the injury in Spain and it needed stitches inside the ankle. Then I got kicked on it again and it's been sore. But it's nothing to worry about. I don't expect it to be a problem."
