Paulo Ferreira makes Chelsea move

Chelsea have signed Portuguese international defender Paulo Ferreira from UEFA Champions League winners Porto, according to daily newspaper Record.

Porto agreed to sell Paulo Ferreira to Chelsea for £13 million, a staggering amount for a right back.

The attack-minded defender is believed to have penned a deal until 2008 and follows former manager Jose Mourinho to the London club.

Mourinho had said that his immediate priority would be to cut the number of players at his disposal in a bid to instil the hunger that characterised his stay at Porto.

The Portuguese international's arrival will certainly mean Mario Melchiot will leave the club in the summer, with Glen Johnson's future also now in the balance.

"I can confirm that Paulo Ferreira is leaving," Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa told A Bola newspaper

"There are still a few details to sort out before he transfers to Chelsea, however."
