Ronaldo to miss Copa America
The Real Madrid ace, who scored a hat trick in last week's World Cup qualifying win over Argentina, feels he needs a break after a long and hard season for club and country.
"I need to have some rest and I want to enjoy my holidays so I have already announced that I will not be able to play the Copa America in Peru for Brazil during July," said Ronaldo.
"I want to have some rest so I can be in perfect condition for the next match that Brazil will have to play for the South American qualifiers in September against Bolivia.
"I have already spoken with the coach Carlos Parreira about asking him not to call me for the Copa America."
Ronaldo has been happy with Brazil's last two results in qualifying beating Brazil and then picking up a draw in Chile to put them top of the South American standings.
"A week ago we were in the fourth position but after beating Argentina and having a draw against Chile we are in the first position," added Ronaldo.
Ronaldo is likely not be the only big name to miss out on the Copa America with coach Carlos Parreira planning to rest Cafu, Dida, Roberto Carlos, Kaka and Ronaldinho.
"At the age of 34 Cafu is still running like a young player and I want him to play that way in September against Bolivia. So he deserves to have some rest and I will not call him for the Copa America," said Parreira.
