Norwich release Rivers

Mark Rivers, who is currently training with Ipswich Town, has had his contract cancelled by Norwich City.

The 28-year-old had a year remaining on his deal with The Canaries but has been allowed to leave Carrow Road by mutual consent.

He has immediately earned himself the chance of a new club after linking up with Norwich's East Anglian rivals Ipswich.

Rivers joined The Canaries from Crewe Alexandra in a £500,000 switch three years ago and appears to show no regrets over his departure from the club.

"I have greatly enjoyed my time with Norwich City," he told the club's official website.

"I have been here since 2001, since when we have had one play-off final, one near miss and a promotion as champions, of which I am very proud.

"I would like to wish the club, the fans and the players all the very best for the season ahead."

Norwich manager Nigel Worthington feels a change of scenery will prove to be the best option for the winger.

Worthington added: "After being involved at the beginning of last season, Mark found it difficult following his injury and was frustrated by his lack of first team opportunities.

"He has got to move on to find first team football and we wish him all the best of luck."
