Rivers flows back to Crewe

Mark Rivers is training with his former club Crewe Alexandra after failing to clinch a contract at fellow Championship side Ipswich Town.

The experienced attacker linked up with Ipswich Town after being released by East Anglian rivals Norwich City following their promotion to The Premiership.

But he was unable to convince Joe Royle of his merits and is now training with his first club - Crewe.

Rivers left Gresty Road for Norwich in a £500,000 deal three years ago and is attempting to win a second chance with Dario Gradi's side.

The 28-year-old could feature in Tuesday's friendly against Everton, with Gradi admitting he could offer Rivers a contract at the club.

"There is a possibility of Mark coming here because he is a player in limbo after being released by Norwich in the summer," Gradi told the club's official website.

"Neil (Baker) has spoken to him and he knows that he would be welcomed back here but at the moment that is a long way off.

"I always thought that Mark would get better as he got older and if he was to come back then I'm sure he would have a different attitude after spending time away.

"To be honest, I never wanted him to leave when he did, it was his decision and I understood it.

"We did have a bit of a fall-out at the time but that was all forgotten when he came back here with Norwich.

"He would be a useful acquisition to us if he was fit, but we'll have to see about that."
