Sander shown door at Sociedad

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld has spoken of his disappointment after being informed he is no longer wanted at Real Sociedad.

The Dutch custodian had been undisputed number one at the Basque club after joining from Liverpool in December 2001.

However, new Sociedad boss Jose Maria Amorrortu has informed the 29-year-old that Alberto and Asier Riesgo will be his top two keepers next term, and that he should look for a new club.

"I have spoken with the club and they have explained that they will be counting on Alberto and Riesgo and that the best thing for me is to look for an exit," he told the club's official website.

"I understand the situation but I am not happy with it, I am confused and worried. What I need is to be playing."

Westerveld admits the timing of the news is a blow as he currently has no offers on the table.

"While there is no chance for me to leave I have to continue working normally," he continued.

"I want this to be sorted as soon as possible. Personally, I feel they told me a little late and now it is difficult to find an exit."
