Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has received another huge blow as his knee injury will probably rule him out of the entire season.

The Norwegian marksman missed virtually all of the last campaign with a knee problem and it is a similar injury which has ruined another year.

Solskjaer was suffering with his knee during pre-season and it has now been confirmed that it is cartilage damage.

A club spokesman confirmed the news through a statement on the club's website.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer underwent an arthroscopy yesterday in Gothenburg," said a club statement.

"This unfortunately confirmed persistent damage to the articular cartilage of his right knee.

"He will undergo further treatment but it is likely that Ole will miss the whole season."

The news will be a huge blow to Sir Alex Ferguson who was looking forward to the Scandinavian attacker playing more of a role in the upcoming season.

Solskjaer's injury also means that Diego Forlan should now remain at Old Trafford, as his departure would leave Ferguson short up front.

Forlan, along with Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alan Smith and Louis Saha will now carry the attack for United this season.
