Edwards to leave Crewe

Crewe striker Paul Edwards has been told he can leave the club on a free transfer.

Crewe striker Paul Edwards has been told he can leave the club after failing to make any kind of impression this season.

The 21-year-old striker has failed to live up to his potential and, having failed to reproduce early promise at a senior level, has now been deemed surplus to requirements.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has confirmed that the player has been granted his own request to leave on a free transfer.

''Paul has asked to leave and we have accepted his decision,'' Gradi told the club's official website.

''There comes a time when you have to stop hitting your head against a wall and we are making Paul available on a free transfer or on loan.

''It is a shame because we wanted him to realise his potential. He was a player we had high hopes for.''
