Youri in Rovers talks

Former France international Youri Djorkaeff is in talks with Blackburn Rovers.

Former France international Youri Djorkaeff is in talks with Blackburn Rovers regarding a move to Ewood Park.

Djorkaeff is available on a free transfer after he failed to agree a new contract with Blackburn's fierce rivals Bolton Wanderers in the summer.

He spent last week training with another Premiership club - Fulham - but a switch to Craven Cottage reached an impasse.

Birmingham City and Everton were also linked with the 36-year-old, but Rovers are now in pole position to snare his signature.

The veteran forward's agent Willie McKay confirmed the discussions with Blackburn and he is optimistic a deal can be struck.

"Youri is in talks with Blackburn," McKay told skysports.com.

"Things are progressing well and hopefully we'll get a deal sorted."

Rovers are understood to be looking to sign Djorkaeff on a short-term deal until January, with the option of an extension.

If an accord can not be reached, then Birmingham and Fulham, along with Scottish champions Celtic, are all waiting in the wings.
