September gong for Sidwell

Steve Sidwell has been named Powerade Player of the Month for September.

Reading midfielder Steve Sidwell has been named the Powerade Player of the Month for September in The Championship.

Sidwell's ever-improving performances for Steve Coppell's Royals took the Berkshire outfit to the top of the Championship table last month - their highest League position in the club's history.

The former Arsenal player (pictured) pipped Watford striker Danny Webber, Sunderland goalkeeper Mart Poom and Ipswich Town centre back Jason de Vos to the monthly award.

Sidwell is joined by Luton Town's on-loan striker Rowan Vine, who took the same honour in League One.

Vine has been instrumental in helping Mike Newell's Hatters go seven points clear at the top of the table after arriving on loan from Premiership side Portsmouth.

The 20-year-old received the nod ahead of Hull City's Stuart Elliott and Brentford's John Salako.

The League Two award went to Yeovil Town striker Phil Jevons after his goals helped the Somerset-based club achieve an unbeaten run in September.

The former Grimsby Town hit-man scored a hat-trick in the club's 6-1 thrashing of Oxford United to take his goal tally to seven for the season.
