McCall made Warnock assistant

Sheffield United have appointed Stuart McCall to assistant manager.

Sheffield United have appointed veteran midfielder Stuart McCall as assistant manager at Bramall Lane.

The former Everton, Rangers and Bradford City man takes over the role vacated by David Kelly, who left on Monday to become Billy Davies's assistant at Preston North End.

The 40-year-old has been acting as a player-coach with The Blades, having been in charge of the club's reserves recently.

Manager Neil Warnock was pleased to promote the former Scotland international to be his assistant.

"With Stuart now becoming my assistant, we are both looking forward to working more closely together in our determination to take the club forward," Warnock told the club's official website.
