Sonny: Divorce forced move

Sonny Anderson admits he took a move to Qatar in order to help pay for his divorce.

Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson has confessed that he has moved to Qatar outfit Al Rayyan to pay for his divorce.

The move took Spanish outfit Villarreal by surprise, and initially they did not want to part company with the 34-year-old.

However, Anderson insists he was left with no choice given the lucrative nature of the contract on offer.

"Since 2001 I have been negotiating my divorce," he explained.

"Although the divorce has not yet happened, my wife has taken everything from me.

"That is why I have now been forced to make the move in order to earn more money."

The former Barcelona and Lyon striker also admitted that he had moved from France to Villarreal last year for the same reason.

Anderson has signed a sixth-month contract with the Middle East club which is worth around ‚é¼2.5million.
