Hendry keen on Warhurst

Paul Warhurst may be set to earn a short-term contract with Blackpool.

Blackpool manager Colin Hendry is hopeful he can sign former team-mate Paul Warhurst on a short-term deal.

The former Manchester City, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers utility man has been staying in shape by training with The Seasiders and Championship side Preston North End recently.

The 35-year-old, who was a team-mate of Hendry's at Blackburn and Bolton, has struggled to settle with a club after leaving Bolton in September 2003.

Warhurst had short spells with Chesterfield, Barnsley, Carlisle United and Grimsby Town last season, as well as having a trial with Queens Park Rangers.

After leaving The Mariners in the summer, the veteran had an unsuccessful trial at League Two club Chester City.

Despite being out-of-contract, Hendry seems prepared to hand Warhurst a lifeline with the Bloomfield Road club.

"I've spoken to Paul Warhurst and he feels he's as fit as he's been in the last couple of years," said Hendry.

"He's played at the highest level and was successful. You cannot ignore him, or let this type of player pass you by.

"Paul has been training with us and I hope to be signing him on a short-term contract."
