Roma's woeful UEFA Champions League campaign continued after the Serie A giants slipped to a 2-0 defeat away to Dynamo Kiev.

Last year's Italian runners up have just one point from their opening five games and were undone by an own goal from Traianos Dellas and tap in by substitute Maxim Shatskikh.

The Giallorossi were already one down when they were reduced to ten men when young defender Giuseppe Scurto was dismissed for collecting his second booking.

The victory is Kiev's first ever Champions League triumph over Italian opposition with the win coming in sub-zero temperatures in Ukraine.

The home were always the more likely to score through out the tie and came close to breaking the deadlock early on.

Firstly Diogo Rincon headed Tiberio Ghioane's left wing corner wide of goal while Kleber's left footed drive was just wide of target.

Roma's best chance in the first half, an opening 45 minutes where only one shot hit the target, was through Alberto Aquilani whose overhead kick floated just wide.

The second half improved dramatically after the break in terms of entertainment, as the snow continued to fall in Ukraine, with Ivan Pelizzoli the star performer.

Oleg Gusev had an effort from a tight angle blocked, but then the home side could not beat the inspired Pelizzoli.

On two occasions the shot-stopper pulled off superb saves to keep Roma in the contest, before their resistance was finally broken.

Firstly Maris Verpakovskis' close range effort was somehow tipped over the bar with a reflex save and moments later Gusev's drive was kept out by Pelizzoli.

Kiev took a deserved lead after 73 minutes when Ghioane's right wing cross was too good for Dellas, whose stooping header flew past the helpless Pelizzoli.

Roma's attempted to get back into the contest were effectively over when Kleber saw red for clashing with the dangerous Kleber.

The icing was put on the cake with eight minutes remaining when substitute Shatskikh was superbly set up by Rincon out wide to tap home from close range.
