Lee ends Oldham spell

Robert Lee has left Oldham Athletic after making a single appearance.

Veteran midfielder Robert Lee has left Oldham Athletic after making just a single appearance for the League One club.

The former England international had agreed to come out of retirement to sign a five-match deal with The Latics.

The former Newcastle United and West Ham United player played just over an hour in last week's LDV Vans Trophy win over Hartlepool United.

Despite the midweek appearance, Lee was not involved in Oldham's FA Cup victory over Leyton Orient after deciding to go home to consider his future over the weekend.

The veteran has now decided to step down from being involved in Brian Talbot's first team.

"Rob came in at a time when the club was short of players and he was brought in to lend a hand," read an Oldham club statement.

"Now that some players have returned from injury, he has decided to step aside, but is on standby if needed."
