Chester bid for Jevons

Chester City have made a bid for Yeovil Town striker Phil Jevons.

Chester City chairman Stephen Vaughan has confirmed they have made a bid for Yeovil Town striker Phil Jevons.

The club have already moved to solve their striking dilemma by signing teenager Eddie Anaclet on loan from Premiership side Southampton while they await a response to their bid for Jevons (pictured) from The Glovers.

Yeovil boss Gary Johnson has already responded to Chester's interest by claiming the striker will only leave for a club in the higher divisions.

With Gavin Williams set to leave Huish Park for Championship side West Ham United, Johnson is unlikely to be willing to sell their summer signing to a League Two rival.

Despite Johnson's claims, Vaughan is hopeful Chester can reach a deal for goalscorer Jevons.

"The bid is on the table for Jevons, but Yeovil have responded in the media and not to our fax," Vaughan said.

"We've done everything by the book and we've made a substantial and attractive offer.

"He's Liverpool-based and he's proven at that level. We were interested in him in the summer, but Yeovil pipped us.

"We had a similar situation with Daryl Clare at Boston last season. We're not going anywhere."

Meanwhile, Yeovil midfielder Roy O'Brien has signed a new contract until the end of the season with the Somerset club.

The 30-year-old was on a month-to-month contract before agreeing new terms this week.

Despite the new deal, the Irishman has been struggling to get regular first team football under Johnson and he has decided to take a month's loan with non-league side Weymouth.
