Crawford homeward bound

Scotland international Stevie Crawford is calling it a day with Plymouth.

Plymouth Argyle's Scottish international striker, Stevie Crawford, has spoken about his decision to call it a day with The Pilgrims.

Crawford arrived at Home Park last June having been signed from his hometown club Dunfermline Athletic and was widely regarded as coach Bobby Williamson's most impressive summer capture.

His determination to play on the deck had impressed the home fans and had established himself as a popular member of the Pilgrims squad.

However, the 30-year-old striker has admitted that his attempts to settle his family in Devon had proved problematic and his wife and two young children have already moved back north of the border.

"My wee boy is six and my wee girl is four and for the first time in my career I'm going to have to put them first. Anybody who has kids will understand that," he told the Western Morning News.

"I'm enjoying playing for Argyle, the club are ambitious and they're looking to hold their own in The Championship.

"The boss has known my situation for a while. He understands me 100 percent. It's a horrible situation. I was keen to come down and give it a go and the football side isn't a problem. But my kids come before everything and I hope everybody can understand that."

Under normal circumstances, Fifa regulations would have prevented a move, but a recent rule amendment will enable The Pilgrims to terminate the player's contract at his request.

Both Aberdeen and Dunfermline have declared an interest in the striker.
