Grimsby snap up Gritton
Grimsby Town have completed the signing of striker Martin Gritton from Torquay United.
Grimsby Town have completed the signing of striker Martin Gritton from Torquay United for a nominal fee.The Mariners made an enquiry for the 26-year-old earlier this week and they have quickly concurred on terms with the player and club.
Torquay will receive an initial £5,000, with a further £5,000 arriving at Plainmoor if Grimsby are promoted within the next two seasons.
Gritton has signed an 18-month contract at Blundell Park, with the option of a further year if he impresses.
Earlier this month, he had been offered a move to Blackpool but was unable to agree personal details with Colin Hendry's outfit.
He has had no such problems with Grimsby and the League Two side are delighted to bag the former Plymouth forward.
"It has been a difficult deal to do and it has been going on for the past ten days or so," Mariners chairman John Fenty told the club's official website.
"Hopefully we have now got our man and hopefully he can score a few goals for us."
During two-and-a-half years with Torquay, Gritton scored 26 goals and will hope to build on that with Russell Slade's side.
